What does that get us? Mist. It's awesome. This is the kind of weather that makes you want to grab your book and a cup of hot tea, and wear your sweats all day. Too bad I have this thing called a job. So now I think, "how could I make this cold day even colder?". My answer: Let's go to the hockey game and sit next to ice with the air conditioners on! So I plan on leaving here in a bit to meet Tim and watch the Jackalopes (which I think is a ferocious bunny for the mascot). Who knew hockey could be so fun. We've been to probably 75% of their games so far. It's an adrenaline rush to sit on the front row next to the tall plexiglass windows and watch guys get smashed up against them.

In other news, Major the Doberman turned a whole one year old during Thanksgiving. He celebrated by devouring a dinosaur-size bone in about 4 days. Happy Birthday!

He's too cute. Not sure. Interesting. So we survived another week in record heat. I got my Southern Living magazine yesterday that had fall colors all over the front cover with some kind of fall bunt cake. It made me feel like there is no way on earth we will ever make it out of summer and into fall. How could the temperature ever drop below 100? I'm trying so hard not to let myself think of sweaters and long-sleeve t-shirts just yet, seeing as how I'm melting in my own home. I hope someday I will live somewhere that actually has "seasons". Somewhere where you don't need to look at a calendar to tell you it's August because it really feels like July--where you actually watch the seasons changing instead of going straight from 100 degrees to 50 degrees, then back to sweltering.
So anyway, I have a list of probably 10 things I'm putting off right now, but this is my favorite part of the weekend. Major and I get up first on Saturdays and let Tim sleep in. It's the time when the house is quiet, the sun is shining, and I only have my coffee and my mind or book to think about. No work, no chores, no noise (except my iTunes on occasion). Just me . . . waiting for Tim to get his sleepy head out of bed. It's fun waiting for him, because it makes it even better when he finally does get up.

Speaking of, he just woke up. That's my cue.

Caught by a wave my back to the ocean.
It knocks me off my feet and
just as I find my footing
here you come again
DMB

KlH

Heat.

There is no place on earth that could possibly be hotter than Midland, Texas. I am convinced. It hasn't been lower than 102 for the past million days, I swear. The only thing rescuing my mind from going absolutely bananas while trapped indoors to prevent evaporating are books. Several books actually. Actually, I didn't really realize how much I like to read. I'm not in to the whole bettering yourself/educational books or (gasp) religious books. They lose my interest by about page 0.5. I read the last Harry Potter book, again, before going to see the movie--which wasn't everything I hoped it would be, but then again, the movies are never as good as the books. I also read all 4 Twilight saga books--and then read the first one again--and plan on reading the other 3 again. I fought society on those for a long time refusing to read something 15-year-old girls across the world were obsessed with--and lost. They are really very good. Fiction, of course, but wonderful. I'm going to force my daughter to read them someday so she never settles. I've also used my indoor time to watch a TV show--Vampire Diaries (ignore the trend, I'm not nuts). It's good too. I think I've decided I really like the whole "damsel in distress", protective mate idea. It's a good thing I'm married to a hunk with big muscles and a to-die-for face. It also doesn't hurt that I have a ridiculously over-protective doberman pinscher who guarded me like a hawk while my hunk with big muscles was out of town for very long week. Too much time alone = crazy book nerd. Too bad my nursing school books fall under the bettering yourself/education books or I would be very smart. I have a trend of doing all of my homework on my lazy Sunday. This keeps me from thinking about it for the rest of the week.

A new week. I can't say I'm that excited about it considering my phone tells the temperatures are all varying degrees of one-o-something. But, I will press on because I have another book ready to go--The Host--by the same author of Twilight. Sweet.

Enjoy your week. Don't evaporate.

Seriously . . .

I am really awful at posting regularly on here huh? I can't believe how long it's been. I have missed it though. I enjoying reading all of your blogs so I feel guilty not posting on my own!

Where to start . . . since I haven't breathed a word since January . . .

Our four legged child! Yes, he is wonderful--barking at the biker going down our street right now. Ok, he really doesn't bark that often, only when the neighbor dogs stir him up or when he is trying to alert his poor mama that there is danger--which he is good at. He has 2 barks: one is a silly bark which is more like a huff from his jowls, the other is a code red fire alarm bark that means DANGER! You cannot mistake the two. I'll never forget the first time I heard his #2 bark. I was standing in my closet collecting hangers while the back door was open for Major to come in and out as he pleased (cut down on indoor accidents--mind you this was several months ago--he is potty trained now hallelujah). Suddenly this 3-1/2 month old 45 pound dog turns on his imminent danger, code red bark. Needless to say I dropped all 1,284,832 hangers and ran to the back door. The sweet protective pup butt-slammed me as I tried to walk out to the backyard. He literally sniffed the perimeter of the yard before allowing me to walk outside. Did I tell you how much I love him?! I still don't know what caused the code red bark but I am glad I didn't have to find out! He has only performed his #2 bark one other time.

Here is my baby at 5-1/2 months old: 60 pounds.

We also visited Tim's family in Wisconsin--brrr. 40's in April is different to me! Anyway, one whole week of nothing to do. It was wonderful. We drove around a few times and decided we could live there--except in the winter when there is like 4 feet of snow, so just kidding.

Here is the spot I picked out to build a house.

We also hosted Mother's Day at our house. We had a great time eating and . . . eating? Oh my, we like to eat. I'm surprised we don't all weigh 300 pounds.

Sweet potato/regular fries and lots of meat!

Ooo we also painted the kitchen! I wish he was here RIGHT NOW!

Well thanks for being my blogging friend and I hope to hear from all of you soon.

Katherine

Hi

Poor blogging people . . .

I will be reconnecting with you soon, but as of now, I am knee deep in summer school and trying to dig my way out!

Thanks for being patient!

Katherine

I'm Annoyed.

Thought I would vent through my blog.

I am annoyed at how terrible our society has become. For example, I keep seeing people's engagements on facebook. Not the pictures after they have become engaged, but the pictures of the man asking the woman to marry him. Hello, this is such a private, precious moment and it is ruined by cameras. It's like we live our lives now to be in pictures to show everyone else. Sorry, but I guess I'm an old fashioned girl who still believes that marriage, love, and romance is sacred.

Ahh, I feel better now. It has been going really great. I was loving life until Tuesday afternoon when my throat started feeling scratchy and my nose started running. It went down hill from there. Wednesday morning I felt terrible and finally took my temperature around 10 at work. It was almost 100. I decided it was best to stay home after lunch and take a nap. So of course today, Thursday, from 8-12 is the first day of my summer school class and I missed it in hopes that sleeping in a bit will get me through the afternoon at work. But don't worry, I am on antibiotics now and will hopefully get to feeling better. I can't believe I missed 1/2 a day at work and a day of summer school all in the first week of both! Ahh! I hope this doesn't keep up.

Tim is still loving life at CSI--no he is not a crime solver! They actually had a big cookout today so he got a free steak lunch. What's not to love about that?

Little Jinx is great. She is enjoying the hot days inside and the cooler nights outside. It's a nice break because she used to sleep inside with us at night and she'd wake me up a couple times. Now I can sleep soundly unless my dripping nose wakes me up first.

Enjoy the coming weekend!

Katherine

4th

We had a great time this week at the lake with some family friends.

I drove down with my parents on Friday and we stopped at some neat shops along the way. Tim, Spencer and Josiah drove down Saturday to join up with the group. We stayed with my "second parents" at their lake house-David and Elaine Miller who were our neighbors in Abilene and have 2 boys Spencer's age. They practically helped raise me and I love them to death! We had a great time skiing, tubing and just cruising around. We taught Josiah how to ski! He did really well getting up on only the second try. We had the roughest water most of the time so our ski runs were slightly short. I think we all fell on the waves a couple times. I am so SORE! We were also joined by my other "second parent's" the Henderson's who have a daughter my age who was my childhood best friend! Saturday night we watched lots of fireworks. It was like a panoramic view watching all the people around the lake show off their fireworks! Hopefully I will get some pics from mom soon!

Hope everyone had a great fourth!

Katherine

The Beach

We spent the week in Destin, FL with family. Aren't we productive!

Check this out: (Copied and pasted from the Texas board of nursing website)

Texas Nurses - Verification Results

KATHERINE HIRD

License Type: REGISTERED NURSE

Resides in: MIDLAND TX 79707

Issued on: 6/8/2010

Licensure Status: CURRENT - 1/31/2012

Compact License: YES

Current Disciplinary Action: NONE

Well after a day like that I am ready to sit on the couch and read my book!

Katherine

Day 1

Day 1 of Tim's time off.

Tim is about to start a new job at CSI, but luckily is able to take some time off in between!

Tim started the day off at Stonegate helping pack up the 5th and 6th graders going to camp! Of course, I slept in :) We ate lunch together at the house then Tim began working in the yard and I headed off to Midland College to get some things in order for my summer school stuff. I came home and picked up Tim and we went to Furniture Row and bought our new dining room table! See....... (It has a butterfly leaf that isn't shown here, so it actually seats 8!)

We won't get it for a couple of weeks because they only had 4 of the 8 chairs in stock and had to order the actual table. Gosh, you'd think they keep at least 1 in the warehouse! We swung by the library on the way home (totally not on the way home but we wanted to go) and checked out some movies to occupy us this week. Next we stopped and ate at La Bodega before finally heading home to watch a movie!

It has been really awesome to have him home all day. We waited too late to reserve a campsite in New Braunfels, so we ended up in Kerrville at the Shriner Campgrounds--very pretty. We went to eat at a Chilis on the river on Saturday night and came back to camp and roasted marshmellows. Then, on Sunday, we drove about an hour to New Braunfels, rented our "toobs", floated for about 4 hours, ate at the Gristmill in Gruene, and headed back to camp for some more marshmellow roasting and sang Kum bay ya (ok so we didn't sing Kum bay ya, but we sang some other fun songs that our camping neighbors really appreciated). Finally, on Monday we packed up camp and drove to Fredricksburg to eat at an authentic German place and to visit one of Spencer's friends, Mr. Zenner, at his peach orchard/processing place. It was really awesome to watch--we even got two boxes of free peaches! Here are some of the few pictures I took. I really need to get a new camera AND start taking more pictures!

Patrick starting the campfire.
<img style="cursor: pointer; School has completely enveloped me the fast few weeks. I still have the rest of this week, then tests Mon/Tuesday and PINNING on Wednesday (Pinning=getting my RN pin, aka graduation basically). I will definitely post a picture of it when I get it. I can't believe it is already here! I don't think it will officially set in until I take my boards in June.

So I have found another TV show that I love: 9 by design. It comes on Bravo on Tuesday nights--I'm watching it right now actually!! They have 7 kids with the craziest names. I mean, one of them is named "Five" because he's the 5th kid. Love it. I am a fan of crazy names. I asked Tim if we could name our first child "One"...I don't really even need to finish the sentence. Lol. We have tons of fun names picked out for our future children though, just not that crazy. Anyways, the husband and wife redo houses in New York into these awesome vintage looking places. They go to flea markets in Paris and other places and pick up the neatest stuff. I can't wait to get to some flea markets and garage sales to start decorating this place! I need to pick out some paint colors first though and that is really hard!!

Tim. Where do I start. His job is NUTS! He has been working so much. I'm sure y'all are waiting for the day I post that he is NOT busy. Ha. That will be, like, when he retires. He is such a hard-worker by nature that he probably won't ever quit working. Ahh I love him.

I hope you guys can be happy with this post! I need to go get some sleep. I'm an old lady now who goes to bed at 10....ok only when I have to get up before 9 the next morning :)

Goonight friends! It's good to be back in the world again with you all!

Katherine

A Hiccup

I'm sorry that there's been a HUGE hiccup in my blogging awesomeness but let me just tell you about the past 3 weeks:

--we moved into our house
--we continued to move into our new house
--we forgot to get the internet switched over
--we made an appointment to get the internet switched over
--the day we were supposed to get the internet switched over Tim was on a rig call in the booneys and didn't have service to answer their call
--I got a stomach bug and spent a night in the hospital and 3 days recovering
--NOW WE HAVE INTERNET AND I'M TOO TIRED TO BLOG (I just wrote BLAG and had to back-up)

So this is the band aid on my blogging booboo's. How awful, huh?

It is Friday. The last official day of my last official spring break. I feel as though I might shed a tear. It was a good spring break though. I got lots of packing and sleeping done. We move a week from tomorrow into our new house and I am so excited! I have to give myself pep talks before I walk in to any store because all I want to do is start buying things for the house. I have to think "No Katherine, wait until you get moved and then you can go crazy, okay?" It quite hilarious. We are going by the house tomorrow to put our refrigerator in the garage. The owners (who are already moved out) were kind enough to allow us to store it there until the big day. I need to think of a name for our house. I name everything: my car, my shoes . . . so it just feels right. I'll think of it soon--no suggestions please. So, by the way, the moving party will be on Saturday, March 27th beginning around 10 a.m. Come help and I will feed you lunch! :)

Ok bedtime bye!

Katherine

Study Study Study

I should be studying right now... I have a test tomorrow.

It seems like that's all I do now. I have never been a study-er. I don't get bad grades but I just can't sit and study for long periods at a time. So I take lots of breaks to eat, pee, walk around, play a game on the computer or throw Jinx's mouse around for her. I managed to get a video of her fetching the other day. I will get it on here when I figure out how to do that.

This weekend was interesting/fun/quick. Friday I had clinical at MCH until around 7:15 p.m. I went over to mom and dad's for dinner after because Tim was working late. I think he made it home around 10:30 or so. We went out for lunch together on Saturday and then I went with my parents to Lamesa to meet my family from Lubbock to celebrate my Grandmother's birthday. Tim couldn't go because he was on "rig call" for work. My phone rang around 6:30 p.m. ... a rig was broken down. Yuck. I hate hearing those words. He didn't get home until 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning. Rig's scare me. They are dangerous and I have seen some of the accidents in the E.R. This makes it hard for me to sleep when he's gone. So, needless to say we slept in on Sunday morning and enjoyed a fairly lazy day together.

Well I have a busy week coming up so sayanora til later!

Katherine

We bought a HOUSE!

Well we can finally let the secret out: we bought a house. It is really exciting! Tim and I have always dreamed about owning a home and can't believe how blessed we have been to find this house. It has really been a work of the Lord because the timing and the stories that go along with it are truly miraculous. Now I get to pick out paint colors and start shopping the garage sales for furniture. So, if you have any cool furniture that you feel like tossing out soon--don't, I might want it! We officially close at the end of March so I won't have any other pictures up until then. The interior of the house needs a little paint and TLC so I will be posting some fun before and after pictures. Get excited! Also, if anyone just loves to paint, I would love your assistance. There might even be an edible reward.

Not much else has been going on other than the house business so I will leave you with my verse of the day.

"Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. I am working on my Espanol. It is very importante in the ER because probably 40% of people coming in are spanish speaking only. I have been having a great time in clinicals which is good considering I am there 12-24 hours a week--It's too bad we aren't getting paid for those hours. So far I have seen more than I imagined and have learned more than I can imagine. I love how diverse the ER is and think it will really help me in the future because I will know quite a bit about almost any situation.

It's hard to think of anything to talk about other than school because it is pretty much consuming my life right now. I want to give everyone a big huge apology for the past month and for the next 3 because I will not be seeing you much. I am not ignoring anyone. It is hard to choose friends over my sweet husband when I finally get a night off because he seems just as busy, if not more. We were blessed to spend an entire day together this past Sunday. It was awesome. I am still so very much in love with this man I married. I was thinking the other day about how God picked us out for eachother when we were only creatures in our mother's stomaches and how He must have laughed every time we dated someone other than eachother.

Ok I have writers block.

Well, let us all pray for snow tomorrow so I don't have class.

Good evening!

Katherine

Oh my.

It has been a crazy last couple of weeks.

I started clinical in the ER over at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. I have to be there at 6:30 a.m. and get off at 7 p.m. Some weeks I will be over there Wednesday and Thursday, and some weeks just Friday. It is weird to leave the house while it's dark outside and drive home in the evening also in the dark. I have been able to see a lot of crazy/fun things over there and really really love being in the ER. I will get to stay there all semester long. Oh ya--I still have class--and it is challenging. We have a cardiac test coming up that'll be a doozie.

Tim's job has kept him extremely busy the last few weeks as well. We feel like we hardly see each other some nights, especially when I have clinical. We have just enough time to scarf down a meal together and say goodnight! He works most days from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Starting these 12-hour clinicals has really been an eye-opening experience for me and I now know just how exhausted he is when he gets home. It's rough. But hey, it is only a season!

My little baby kitty goes tomorrow to have some "female" surgery. I hope it helps to settle her down because she wakes me up a lot at night. Though I will feel sorry for her tomorrow night, I am looking forward to some post-op peace :) Poor thing.

Well we don't have too many plans in the upcoming weeks other than endless school and work/clinical. I am super excited to watch the Saints beat the Colts! I hope they win! They have never even been to the Super Bowl before so how cool would it be if they won?

I guess that is all I can think up to say in this post!

Have great weekends everyone!

Katherine

First Day of the Last

Today was the first day of my last semester in nursing school....notice I didn't say first day of my last day of school forever. I wish. It was a good day. I like the teachers so far, especially the one who canceled her class this afternoon. Although now I have been sitting around at home rather bored. Little Jinx is laying on the bed with me keeping my feet warm. She seems to sleep about 20 hours a day which is awesome! I wish I was able to sleep 20 hours a day but there seems to be so much to do.

I am dreading Friday...I get to go get my toe basically chopped off. Ok not completely but at least my toenail. Aren't y'all glad you read my blog and get to hear this awesome stuff? I have lived with random ingrown toenails all my life and now it is worse. All they will do is shove a 19233468 inch needle in my toe to deaden it and then get the junk out. Ouch. I get sick to my stomach when I think of it. It's one thing to be the nurse on the other side of a procedure, and a completely different thing to be the patient (for all you wondering why I get sick to my stomach about this if I am going to be a nurse).

That's all for today!

Katherine

Birthday Eve

Today is the eve of my birth--born 22 years ago tomorrow. Sometimes it feels like yesterday when I was riding bikes and playing barbies with my best friend in Abilene. A few significant things have happened in my life as I look back upon my year. I got married, lost my grandfather, watched my sister-in-law/greatest friend get married, watched her then lose her husband/friend, began my 3rd semester in nursing school, adopted a cat, and watched my other sister-in-law get married. It has been a year of extreme highs and painful lows. All in all, I am thankful to have lived every day of it--even the bad days. I am excited to see what the Lord bestows upon me in the next 365 days.

It has been a pretty lazy past 2 weeks for me which would make one wonder why I haven't updated my blog--sorry. I always think I will wait until I get my pictures uploaded to post so I procrastinate. So pictures or no pictures, I will just have to post anyway. Please excuse the many pictures of the cat--I am a proud parent who gets a little camera happy.

Jinx

Ruthanne (my sister-in-law) and her husband Matt Rohloff.

Christmas at Mom and Dad's.

I think I should get this painted--lol, ok I am not that lame but it is a cute picture.

Jinx was helping me study for finals.

Stretch! So, instead of leaving Houston at 1:00 we left at 6:30. It doesn't sound so bad except that once we get to Chicago we have about a 4 hour drive to her parents house. We finally got there at 2 a.m. Yikes! It was a long day!

The next day was the wedding so we were up and going at 8 a.m. The wedding went wonderfully and the bride was simply beautiful. It was a bitter sweet wedding for me, and most certainly Beth. My mind and heart couldn't help but wander back to the previous wedding in Wisconsin in May when I watched Beth and Jared stand at the alter and say the exact vow's Ruthanne and Matt were now taking. The message the pastor gave was very appropriate. He spoke of how a husband or a wife is always supposed to be loving the other in a way that it glorifies God and prepares them to one day go and kneel at the feet of our King. This was a picture of how Beth loved Jared from day one to his last day. We should all strive to love our spouses everyday as if it could be the last.

Yesterday was a lazy day. We never left the house. I think everyone was able to catch up on some much needed rest and recuperate from the wedding chaos--all except Tim's dad who had to work! There are tons of barn cats running around the homestead which I really enjoy although it makes me miss my little kitty girl at home! Tim says she walks around the house and meows like she's looking for me! It makes my heart ache. I miss her!! We thought we might have lost her after our trip to Lubbock for Christmas. Tim finally found her on Saturday night!

Well today should be just about as uneventful as yesterday which is perfectly fine with me! I am going to enjoy playing games with the siblings and spoiling the barn cats who have already decided they like me...or could it be that they like the food I give them? Neh, it's me.

I hope everyone has enjoyed their holiday season! And hey, it's not even over yet! Tim and I will be heading to Ruidosa on the 31st so this may be my last post for a bit. I have a few pictures to put up when I get home so look forward to that! I promise to do better at posting!!

As always I am extra grateful today for SNOW, white weddings, and barn cats. I pray that the King of Kings blesses us with good traveling weather in the next few days too...or lots of patience!

Goodbye!
Katherine

Good Evening.

Hey everyone!

It's been a great week here. First we started off with Thanksgiving lunch in Lubbock last Saturday. It was the only day my cousin could be off, so we worked with her schedule and ate some early turkey! I baked a dessert called Sopapilla Cheesecake and it was YUMMY! You all need the recipe. After school on Monday and Tuesday I had the rest of the week off. Unfortunately Tim only had Thursday off, but it was wonderful to spend a whole entire day with him. On Thursday, the official Turkey day, we went to my parents house to have even more turkey with mom and dad, Granny, Josiah, and Spencer. Oh my goodness there was SO much food! We enjoyed visiting, playing games, and watching some good football. After that, we wheeled ourselves home and attempted to roll into bed.

So, now that Thanksgiving was over, it was time to get the lights on the house and the tree decorated--which we did in 2 days. Oh yes, it was a busy 2 days but we got it all done by golly. I can't stress enough how much I absolutely love Christmas and ALL that it entails. After decorating over at mom and dad's I got to decorate our place. Twice the fun. There wasn't much I could do seeing that we live in an apartment, but I put up a 4 foot tree, hung stockings--even one for Jinx :)--and put up just about every other decoration I could find, without making it look tacky of course.

Today was quite a lazy Sunday for us. Tim is under the weather--fever, aches, chills and a headache to top it off. We skipped out on church so he could stay home and rest as well as keep his germs to himself. We got him some antibiotics so hopefully he will be back to 100% soon. I hate when he gets sick! I feel so helpless. There is only so much soup I can make and medicines I can give him. As I write, my adorable little kitten is napping on my lap. She thanked me personally earlier today for hanging a stocking for her. She asked Santa to bring her some catnip toys and lots of food because she is a big fat pig. I love her so much!

Well that is all from me for now. I am very excited for the change in weather so we can actually experience a little bit of winter! I hope it snows soon!

As always I thank my Daddy for purring kittens and Christmas decor, and pray that He continue to put in my heart the real reason of Christmas.

Stay warm!
Katherine

Finally Updating

HI! I am finally updating our blog. So sorry. Life just seems to come in cycles of craziness.

First, I have pictures of the adorable kitty we adopted. We finally gave her a name. We were hesitant until we knew she would stay around. Ready . . . JINX. I have a habit of naming my cats after Bond Girls. Jinx is from Die Another Day. My cat at home is Domino from Thunderball. (Yes I am a nerd.) It has all worked out perfectly because she comes in when I am home, and happily exits when I leave and during the night. This means we don't technically have a cat when it comes to the apartment people! She is such a joy to me. I enjoy having her around after school when I have nothing to do around the house. She likes to nap in my lap which is a first for me with cats. I have always tried to get my past cats to lay in my lap and cuddle, but none of them would. She is still warming up to Tim however. She likes to spring about 2 feet in the air when he walks in the room. It's quite hilarious actually. She's just not sure about him being bigger and louder than me :) Here are some pictures of her cuteness:

She likes playing with her beads

Well happy day because I have given up cokes. And most caffeine. I have been surviving on blessed Starbucks tea. It is sooo good. I never wanted to drink it when I worked there because I had access to the cofee, but now I love the black tea. I am trying to see if the caffeine from cokes is what has been causing my ever more frequent migraines. It wasn't as hard to give up cokes as I thought it would be. I guess when your head is hurting so bad that you get nauseas, it gives you some good motivation.

Well the parents left for China last Sunday on the 1st. I've gotten 2 emails from mom letting me know that they are okay. She said the food is actually really good and the hotel is nice. I think they were expecting some kind of ghetto China where they made you sleep on a mat and eat dog. Let's just say they have been happily surprised. Lol. They go to see the terracotta army tomorrow. . . jealous! That sounds awesome! I can't wait for them to come home though. I miss them.

Tim started his new job at TLR & Sons this Monday. So far so great. He really seems to enjoy it. I really enjoy the fact that he gets home at 5:30 everyday instead of 6 one day, 6:45 the next, 5:49 the next. . . you never knew. God has really provided and taken care of us through this season, but should we have excpected any different? I know there we times when we doubted but we have tried to remain faithful and trust in the One and only True thing.

We had a great time Thursday night catching up with the Tilands. We played a couple games and ate dinner together. They also told us their amazing news: they are expecting again! Yay! I am telling you, I love pregnant people. I told Angela that there is a chance I might get to be her nurse because she is due in June and I graduate in May! Awesome! We are so excited for them. I also need to give her a public apology for not giving her any of the pumpkin cookies I made in a past post. I promise i'll make it up to you!

Well that's all from me today. I hope you can live with this update for a while seeing as how I am slow at posting!

As always, I praise our faithful King for kitties, tea, pregnant people (I know I have said this one before, but without them I would be very sad), and great jobs.

Katherine

Good Evening.

It has been a lazy evening at the Hird house. I took a nap this afternoon because I had a migraine, and Tim just got up from a post-work nap. Now we're hanging out on the couch enjoying some free time together. I love evenings like this, where we can just relax together with no agenda. Marriage is sweet. I love it.

We had an enjoyable weekend. Saturday night we went to Beth's house for some games and hanging out. She cooked us some Papa Murphey's pizza and it was yummy. Sunday we had lunch at my parent's house with my grandparents from Lubbock. They came down to wish my dad a happy birthday. His birthday isn't until today, but Spencer was in town so we wanted to celebrate with him there. That evening we all went out to Clear Springs then back to Mom and Dad's for peanut butter pie and presents! I think he enjoyed himself and I hope he had a happy birthday today! I really enjoy living near my parents. They are fun to hang out with and we love them lots.

I have almost adopted a kitty. We have quite a few of them running around here at the apartment. I think it is a girl. She is a little tabby cat that doesn't look more than 4-5 months old. She is getting so brave and actually coming into the house. I keep food out on our patio for her. I hope she gets even braver though because I want her to come in when it gets cold!

Anyway that's all from me. I am quite close to convincing Tim to get a post of his own on here. He has been so busy working 6 days a week thought so we will see! I'll try to get a picture of my adopted cat soon. She is too skittish for cameras right now. Haha.

Goodnight!

Pumpkin Cookies

I am baking pumpkin cookies this afternoon and thought I would share the recipe. I was one tired person on Thursday afternoon. My wonderful husband took me out for dinner one night which was awesome. (It is sad that I cannot even remember what night. It was such a quick and busy week) Friday night we went over to the Tiland's for some games. Angela and I got our butts kicked at Pictionary AND Taboo--so not the norm. Mike and Tim have been getting a lot better at Taboo so that was okay, but we never lose at Pictionary. We had a good evening together otherwise! Saturday Tim had an eye appointment, a hair cut, and he had to go into work for a few hours, so I spent the day cleaning and working on my online class. This was also the day that I developed a cough and a really tight feeling chest--uh oh. We went over to my parents for dinner that evening and also watched the TTU game with them. It was fun.

Sunday is another story. We decided to go get breakfast at Starbucks. I wasn't feeling to well, but I wasn't awful either. I only ordered coffee because I was not hungry. We went to the 11:30 service which was really good by the way, but half-way through it I was shaking like a leaf. It was terrible. Long story short we went home and I had a 101.9 fever and hurt all over.

Now it's Monday and I just got home from the doctor: I am the proud owner of the flu. Yuck-E. I missed clinical today which I am so mad about because I was on the labor and delivery floor, not to mention now I have to make it up later in the semester. Wonderful. So I will be spending the rest of the day trying to fight fever and get comfortable, (ya right) because my whole body hurts to sit, hurts to lay down, and hurts to stand.

One good thing about today however: the weather! Love it! If it were 20 degrees colder, it would probably be a snow day.

As always I am thankful for immune systems, Vitamin C, and a great friend that brings you homemade soup!

Have a great Monday.

Katherine

Short and Sweet

Ok, the bolognese sauce is good--different--but good. I actually added some thyme, oregano, and sage because it was a little too bologne-ish for me. This made it slightly more spaghetti-like. We bought the white wine at Wal Mart for about $4 for those who aren't used to buying it!

School was good today. We got our clinical schedules. I will basically be doing 6am-4pm every Monday and Wednesday for the month of October. The rest of the semester will vary. Yikes! I do not like getting up early so it will be an adjustment.

Tim had some stomach bug stuff today. He thinks it was a burrito he ate this morning because after being sick a few hours he is feeling better. Pray he doesn't have something else though!

That's all for now!

As always, I thank the Father for the beauty of early morning sunrises, coffee, and speedy recoveries!

Enjoy the evening!

Katherine

New Things

I started writing this blog last Tuesday and ran out of time so when it says it was nice and cold outside, you will know it was definitely not today!

Today is a wonderful day. I can smell the crisp, clean air of fall and can feel the cold breeze on my face. I love fall--not as much as winter--but it is the change I like. Fall is like a tease sent from winter, something to satisfy us until the real weather arrives. Time to pull out the scarves, long sleeve T's and fleece. Our God is so amazing isn't he? He knew we wouldn't be satisfied with static weather patterns and the same ole same ole.

Well it's official: we are moved in and unpacked. We had an amazing crew of people who helped us move in. Without them, we would probably still be moving--and unpacking! I cannot imagine having done it by ourselves. I would have been stressed out for weeks.

Ok that's all the old stuff. So this morning my wonderful husband made me breakfast and it was YUMMY! It is such a treat for him to cook because he usually doesn't have much time during the week after he gets home from work.

Here is a recipe I am going to try this week! I love Italian food so this should be pretty yummy.

Bolognese Sauce
2 strips bacon, finely chopped
2 medium onion, finely chopped
2 stalks celery, finely chopped
1 large carrot, finely chopped
6 cloves garlic, (guess what) finely chopped
2 lbs. ground beef chuck
Salt and pepper
2 cups whole milk
Pinch of ground nutmeg
2 cans 28 oz. crushed tomatoes in puree

Serve over bed of favorite pasta.

So I made it through an entire week of simulation labs at school. I can officially care for and ressucitate a newborn baby. I really, really love it. I used to think I wanted to be a labor & delivery nurse, but now the nursery/NICU is looking pretty good. Maybe I can do some of both. I would love that. I am so lame though, Tim and I were in WalMart and there was a pregnant lady ahead of us in line, it was then when I realized I am obsessed with pregnant people. They're awesome.

I promise to start putting pictures on here in the future! It's pretty boring without them. I am just not good at remembering to take pictures.

I cannot think of another thing to write other than the fact that Texas Tech better win the football game I am watching right now. GO TECH! (I love football for those that are new to me.)

As always, I thank my heavenly Daddy for fall, cool weather, football, pregnant people, babies, and allowing me to be a NURSE!

Goodnight!

Katherine

Behind

I used to feel like I was computer savvy but not anymore! I see all these cute blogs and interesting links and think to myself "how do I get that on mine!" It's annoying. It's not like I am old or dumb or something--or maybe I am--don't answer that! It might have something to do with the fact that I finally made the switch to Mac about 3 months ago and am still figuring it out!

It was a busy day for me and the Mr. We packed for h-o-u-r-s. I actually enjoy packing. I am obsessively organized so it gives me a chance to go through things and reorganize when we unpack at the new apartment. It wouldn't have taken us very long but we had ants--lots, and lots of ants. There was a nest in one of our boxes. OMG, it was scary. Millions, and millions of ants. We used 2 of those fuming bomb things and still had to kill some with a shoe. We finally managed to get rid of all of them, including the queen, which was quite interesting. Ant colonies are sophisticated! They have little worker ants and then they have the fighter ants or whatever you call them that are way bigger and have wings. So, not to worry everyone, we are ant-free. I had to take a shower though because I kept thinking things were crawling on me. After the ant fiasco we fortunatly ran out of boxes so we called it quits for the day. Later in the evening we went over to the Tiland's for a few games. Angela and I completely schooled the boys at Hand & Foot and Pictionary. It was fun!

Well tomorrow is church and COM group and I am super excited! We are helping lead a sermon-based group with Justin and Becky Watkins. If you don't have a COM group picked out you should come!

As always I thank the sweet Lord for insects, insect bombs, fellowship with friends, and change.

Enjoy your Sunday!

Katherine

The Kitchen

I love to cook.

Cooking is one of my favorite things to do. Other than my close friends, not many people know this about me. If I could describe an almost perfect day for myself (I say almost because I like to cook alone, therefore, my perfect day would always include my husband :)) it would be like this: waking up preferably after 11 a.m., going to the grocery store, and coming home to cook a nice meal. Doesn't take much to keep me happy! I was sitting in class today when a classmate asked me if I like to cook. I said YES! She then asked where I learned to cook? I told her I learned from my mom, but it got me thinking: not everyone learned to cook while growing up! I never really thought about it. I guess I was blessed with a mother who knows how to cook and cooks really well! So, anyway, if anyone wants any easy recipes or needs a cooking lesson, call me!

Disclaimer: This post was in no way inspired by the recent movie "Julia & Julia"; it's not that good.

As always, I thank my Daddy for grocery stores, cookbooks, recipes and His unending love.

Katherine

My Favorite

Hi friends! My computer sits by the window (I accidentally typed winder just now, oh my) where I am looking out to a cloudy gray sky and it's raining! I love rain, it's my favorite. I could easily live in Seattle and never get depressed--I would probably go in the opposite direction and be incredibly enthused. Doesn't rain just make you want to grab a cup of coffee and cozy down with a book?

Speaking of books, does anyone have any good book recommendations? I am horrible at finding books, especially in Midland, but I enjoy reading good ones. My favorites are mysteries and thrillers, but I also enjoy a good non-raunchy love story. So let me know please!! (Not that I have much extra time for reading).

We recently were in Ft. Davis over the Labor day holiday with my parents. Getting away for the long weekend was exactly what we needed. Mom and Dad rented a couple rooms in a newish bed & breakfast. It was lovely. I really do enjoy b & b's because they are usually made out of old houses with tons of character that are so much fun to explore. This one wasn't quite as character-filled as most because they just finished updating and remodeling it, but we enjoyed it just the same. One of the two mornings we were there the owner made some y-u-m-m-y cinnamon rolls-MMM. The first night we were in Ft. Davis we drove up to the McDonald observatory to attend a Star-Gazing Party. We got to look in telescopes at some star clusters, the moon, and Jupiter! It was really interesting--and cold! The next day we drove to Alpine and spent the afternoon at the small shops there and then drove over to Marfa for their annual festival. They had lots of booths with art and jewelry. Apparently Marfa is now known for their art, weird, weird art. Kinda weird. Check out the Chinati Museum sometime if you go there. That evening we went to see the Marfa lights! They are crazy!! No one has been able to explain them but they look like a cell phone tower with a white or red light flashing on top. They come and go, dim and get brighter, and are just too strange for words-go see them.

Well we are finally learning OB in school! I love it. We watched an hour-and-a-half long dvd today about fetal development which showed lots of 4D images which was awesome! I thought I knew this was the field for me but now it is even more evident!

So I realized I don't post much about Mr. Tim Hird so I will be trying to incorporate him more! I keep trying to get him to write his own post on here but he hasn't so far. Let's see, he continues to work at Watco rigging up big semi's and preparing them to go to the oil fields to haul and move stuff. They just changed their hours so he now has to work 7:30-5ish. He is on the couch right now enjoying some much needed down time while watching TV.

Well I think I am ready to get to bed so I don't hate life in the morning.

As always I am thankful for 3-day weekends, relaxing trips, and having a peace of mind knowing that I am exactly where the Lord wants me to be.

Goodnight!

Katherine

A not so lazy Sunday

Good morning. It is Sunday.

I like Sunday. We have a routine on Sundays. First, church at either 10:00 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. depending on whether Tim or I work that day. Tim works with the youth, and I with children--I rock the cute little babies. After church we meet up with my parents at Rosa's. Yummmmmm. Then it's a nap for me in bed, and a nap for Tim on the couch. He always says he isn't going to take a nap, but then I find him fast asleep on the couch. It happens every Sunday.

Speaking of the word happen, we watched "The Happening" last night. I do NOT recommend it. I had my fingers in my ears and my eyes shut almost the whole time. It is scary, gross, and doesn't really make sense. Two thumbs super down from me. I don't entirely know what possessed me to watch it in the first place because I absolutely hate scary movies, but I watched "The Village" by M. Night Shyamalan (sorry if I spelled his name wrong) and it actually made sense and wasn't too scary.

Well I better go get ready for church considering I need to leave in 15 minutes!

And as always I thank God for allowing us to gather in His house and praise his sweet name, free from the persecution they endure in some other countries. We are blessed for that.

Enjoy your Sunday, be it lazy or not.

Katherine

Good Grief

Good afternoon from my hot apartment.

Here is a short update on our lives:

First off we are moving into a new apartment soon. Mark your calendars for the 19th of September to come help us move! Please! We are moving to the Clusters over by Chik-fil-a. We have had enough of The Dakotas and their rude staff and management. Our new apartment is a downstairs one bedroom apartment right next to the pool. We are very excited to get there. Luckily I am done with work for the summer so I can start pre-packing next week before the chaos of school starting. I start school the 31st. I am really excited to get things going again and fit back into a routine. The sooner we go back to school, the sooner we graduate!

Tim's brother Stephen is visiting this week after spending the summer with Worldview Academy. It sounds like he had a great summer and is already looking forward to fall camp. We took him to KD's bbq last night. . . that was hilarious. These yanks don't know how to eat barbeque. Ok, first he asked if there was any mayonaise to put on some bread to eat with the brisket. If that isn't bad enough, he then started putting A1 steak sauce on it. I about fell out of my chair! After teaching him how to properly eat it with BARBEQUE SAUCE, I think he enjoyed it. Lol.

Well, we babysat our friend's 3 month old puppy last week for 5 days. She is a Siberian Husky named Dixie (See pic above). She was so much fun. We took her to Mom and Dad's to swim . . . she loved it! She would only jump in off the first step and would only swim to me! It was hilarious; her ears would flatten as she swam towards me and kicked those paws as hard as she could! The only downside was that she didn't really enjoy sleeping in the bathroom by herself. She would howl and cry. I could hardly stand it! Tim had to sleep on the couch for 2 nights just so she wouldn't wake the neighbors! It was sad to see her leave, but I am happy to have my husband back in bed :)

I guess that is all for now. I hope all of our friends are enjoying their summers.

As always, I thank God for the animals He gave us to keep us entertained and happy. Also, I am blessed by His Son who died for me so I might truly live and see Him someday.

Katherine

Greetings from 13,000 feet.

I am sitting in a hotel room in Santa Fe awaiting the arrival of Tim and Spencer.

Dad, Mom and I drove from Midland to Santa Fe today--our pit stop before continuing on to Pegosa Springs, Colorado. We are joining my grandparents, aunt and uncle and cousins for a fourth of July celebration. When we arrived in Santa Fe we checked in and then went to the famous "square". It mostly consists of thousands of art shops and hippies--great for people watching. After the hippie fest we moseyed (I have no idea how to spell that), we lingered on over to a quite interesting Mexican food retaurant that opened only a week ago. The owner, Maria, and her sister were the only ones working in this 10 tabled place--oh, and their 4 kids. It was--well--obviously new and fairly edible. We ended the night with a bit of reckless gambling. I actually won $5!! Wow. Dad won about $8. We must be full of luck--or stupidity.

Well now I will continue to watch half of Pirates of the Carribean and half of a show on Discovery Health. Pray for our safe travels further up into the mountains to Colorado tomorrow and that the boys make it here safely--and soon please.

As always, I continue to enjoy my heavenly Daddy's enduring love and thank him for another day of humor and time with family.

Goodnight!

Katherine

Rainy Days

It has been raining here for a few hours off and on. It is wonderful. The smell of my blueberry coffee cakes baking in the oven make for a great living room. They are going with me to Pagosa Springs, Colorado for a small family reunion to honor my grandparents 60th wedding anniversary! Tim and I cooked some lasagnas last night to take for dinner one of the nights. Can't wait to celebrate the 4th in weather less than 90 degrees. It might be a first. For once the fireworks won't want to set themselves off. Just kidding.

I start a new job when we get home from Colorado. I will be working for Stonegate Fellowship, my church. I will mostly be hanging out on the computer entering a bunch of information from new people and kids. Just what I do best! It is only temporary of course seeing as how I go back to school the end of August. It will be strange to work near my mom. Actually it will be kinda fun.

Pray that we all have safe trips to and from CO and enjoy our time fellowshipping with our family. Also, continue to pray for Jared Eggemeyer as he is still in the hospital in Dallas. He has improved but it will be a long road to be completely well.

As always I am blessed to enjoy God's refreshing rain and the smell of good food.

Katherine

Beloved Sleep

I sure do love my sleep.

I felt sleep deprived over the last weekend so I've been making up for it over the past couple nights. One of my best friends Temi Jo Thompson (now Scott) got married this weekend in Abilene. I drove up Thursday for a $29 pedicure that came off in the shower the next day. Bummer. It was lots of fun hanging out with the bride-to-be and my other Abilene friends including Brittany, Kayla, and Abbey. We successfully got the happy couple married off Saturday night followed by a big party at the Windsor Hotel full of food, cake, and dancing. Fun, fun.

Well now I spend my time watching "Little House on the Prarie" and making the occasional run to the gym--and Starbucks of course. I am currently job hunting because the hospital job fell through. They decided to demote all the nurse techs to CNA's. Not so much fun. So if anyone hears of anything through September, let me know.

Well thankfully I have caught up on my sleep and am still enjoying the life I have been given. As always I thank my heavenly Daddy for sleep, food, and a comfy matress.

Katherine

It is HOT

It is so hot outside. Good thing I am cleaning my car today-inside and out.

My poor JEEP got egged last night. I don't think the people responsible were intending to egg my car, but in trying to egg the car next to me, I got the ricochets and bad aims. So after taking it to a car wash and washing it by hand, I managed to get it all off. Now I am working on the inside because it was just dirty to begin with and I am driving to Dallas tomorrow, so a clean car is always nice for road trips.

I am going to hang out with Beth Eggemeyer at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas for a few days as we wait to see what happens with Jared. It is also one of my good friend's Temi Thompson-soon to be Temi Scott's-bachelorette weekend in Dallas so hopefully I can catch up with the gang one of these days.

I passed my first of two tests this week. It is a huge weight off my shoulders to have that done. We are required in nursing school to take a test called the ATI. It somehow measures your ability to pass the NCLEX which is how you get your license. We have to take an ATI for each class. Next semster we have either two or three to take. Tomorrow, I take my Mental-Health for Nursing final and then i'm done! Kiss school good-bye and hello summer.

Please, please continue to pray for Jared. He needs many prayers now for his health, as well as wisdom from doctors. Also, his wife and family need prayer for patience and to be comforted by a loving Father. God is in control.

As always I am blessed today with life, a loving husband, and hope.

Katherine

Numero Uno

The first post. Hard to think of things to write other than I am still learning how to use this. Feel free to acknowledge that as my disclaimer. Hopefully a quick lesson from Mrs. Tiland and I will be good to go.

Life is pretty good here in the steaming hot desert of Midland. Tim and I enjoy spending our evenings indoors so as not to get heat stroke in the 101 degree weather. I am in my last week of never ending summer school and couldn't be happier. I have a test tomorrow, and a final on Wednesday. Going to school in the summer is not so much fun. Sure it's nice to fit a 3 hour class into a month, but that requires long days and lots of studying. I will be happy to spend my days swimming and sleeping instead of sitting in class.

Please pray for our brother-in-law Jared Eggemeyer as he continues to fight some kind of mysterious illness. He is currently in Dallas with a team of knowledgeable doctors hopefully finding answers. Also pray for his wife, Elizabeth that she have patience and know that God is in control of their lives.

I thank God for another day and pray that tomorrow I can serve Him again,

Katherine
